Since the melting of the snow from our long and cold winter, Sunset Park has been buzzing with fun-filled activities and programs for all ages. One of which is a recent development that is quickly gaining popularity. Two times a day and seven days a week, there will be a large group of mainly Chinese women line dancing to old-folk Chinese music. This form of line dancing is very popular in the towns of which these Chinese immigrants originated from. Unlike most dance groups, there are no specific teachers. They operate by relying on each other to teach and learn: people who are familiar with the dance will teach those who aren't. Most of the demographic of these participants are middle age Chinese women (with a few exceptions of Hispanic women) who are unemployed. But they welcome anyone of any nationality, age, or gender.
Dancing for most of these women is a mean of escaping from their mundane daily lives as housewives. It is something they look forward to each day. Not only is it fun and entertaining, it is also very healthy. Many of these women lost unwanted weight and tone their bodies after participating in it. So if you enjoy dancing, meeting new people, or losing weight, try to stop by and see what the fuss is all about.
